Health Sciences North is putting a stop to donations of food, flowers or care packages to the hospital in an effort to protect the public, patients staff and physicians.

The hospital announced the measure in its daily bulletin on Monday.

Furthermore, staff are asked to not order take-out or have food delivered to the hospital, as this increases the number of people coming to the hospital.

HSN is reminding the public that only the following essential items can dropped off for patients at the main entrance of the RLHC: hearing aids; dentures; medical devices (i.e. braces); clothing for patients being discharged; clothing for patients on the rehab unit; and home medication. All other items that are not essential will not be accepted. This includes food and baked goods.

“HSN understands these decisions are difficult, however, these are necessary measures to protect the health and well-being of patients, staff and physicians,” HSN said in its bulletin. “By reducing unnecessary traffic in the hospital, HSN can ensure safe physical distancing. In order to reduce the risk of transmission, HSN must limit arrivals to those coming for essential deliveries, services and care only.”

HSN has four admitted patients who have tested positive for COVID-19. One patient is currently in the intensive care unit, while the other three are being cared for in other inpatient units.
