A No Frills grocery store is coming to Sudbury this summer.
The RioCan Centre Sudbury website confirmed the site as an 11,960-square-foot storefront bookended between the Costco gas pumps and Ren’s Pets. The space previously housed Bouclair Home.
No Frills is owned by Loblaw, and a public relations representative for the company confirmed to Sudbury.com that a No Frills location would be opening in Sudbury “later this summer.”
They would provide no further details, but offered to share more specifics closer to the opening date.
No Frills grocery stores were founded on their namesake principle in the late ’70s, according to their website, “no frills. No product advertising, no store displays, no meat counter, no clerks to bag your groceries.”
Their mainstay is stocking shelves with No Name brand products, a line of generic-brand grocery and household products, and President’s Choice.
The first stores had a few-hundred items to choose from, where today’s has thousands, including such things as fresh produce and meat.
“But with all that has changed over the years, the No Frills concept remains the same, focusing on great meat and produce, commitment to community and trusted low prices.”
The closest No Frills to Greater Sudbury are in Elliot Lake and Sturgeon Falls.
