Barrie Police say they have not received any reports of criminal allegations against former PC Party Leader Patrick Brown.
Brown resigned from his post as party head early Thursday morning after what he called 'troubling allegations' were made against him and which he said were 'categorically untrue.'
"We have not had any allegations and there's no investigation ongoing right now involving Patrick Brown," said Barrie Police Const. Nicole Rodgers. "In the event a complaint comes forward, we obviously take everything very seriously and we will do a complete investigation."
The stunning turn of events unfolded in rapid fire Wednesday night with Brown calling a surprise, late evening news conference.
CTV reported that two women were accusing Brown of sexual misconduct.
His voice shaking with emotion, the visibly upset MPP read a statement in about 90 seconds.
"A couple of hours ago I learned about troubling allegations about my conduct and I'm here tonight to address them," Brown said, his voice trembling
"First, I want to say these allegations are false. Categorically untrue. Every one of them," said a visibly shaken Brown at Queens Park. "I'll defend myself as hard as I can with all means at my disposal."
The Tory leader walked out after making his statement.
Then at 1:30 a.m., he announced he was stepping down as party leader.
