Power was restored at 10:30 a.m. around 850 Greater Sudbury Utilities customers in the Coniston area who were without power this morning.
 
“The cause of the outage, which started at about 5:50 a.m., was a loss of power supplied by Hydro One,” said an email from Wendy Watson, director of communications at the utility.
 
“Initially, a broken insulator was suspected, but it now appears a line out of an Ontario Power Generation Station was faulty.”
 
Power has also been restored for Hydro One customers in the townships of Dryden, Neelon, Kelly, Scadding, Rathbun, Davis and Awrey, who also lost power at around 5:50 a.m.
 
Hydro One listed the reason for the power interruption as “foreign third party equipment.”

Greater Sudbury Utilities tweeted the following this morning at around 8:20 a.m.: "Coniston outage this am trig'd by a broken insulator on the side of Coniston TS. About 90 minutes...say 10:30..til restoration."

Hydro One has issued a notice saying that there's an outage in the following areas: Dryden, Neelon, Kelly, Scadding, Rathbun, Davis and Awrey, The outage affects 917 customers, and started at 5:52 a.m. Power is expected to be restored as of 10 a.m. The cause is currently unknown.

All of Coniston has been without power since 5:50 a.m. this morning, Greater Sudbury Utilities said on its Twitter account.
 
The issue seems to originate from Hydro One, the utility tweeted, adding it currently has no estimated time that the power will be restored.
 
“Power outage affecting all cust in Coniston due to a loss of transmission supply from @HydroOne,” the tweet, issued at around 6:45 a.m., said. “They are wrkg to fix issue. No ETR #darkCGS.”
