Several long-term care homes in Greater Sudbury have suspended non-essential visits effective immediately, in accordance with the recommendation of Ontario's Medical Officer, Dr. David Williams.

Until further notice, only people visiting residents who are very ill or requiring end-of-life care are permitted to enter the premises.

Those seeking entry will be asked further questions upon arrival before the visit is approved.

This new policy has been implemented at the following facilities:

  • Pioneer Manor, 960 Notre Dame Ave.
  • Extendicare York, 333 York St.
  • St. Joseph's Health Centre, 1140 South Bay Rd.
  • St. Joseph's Villa, 1250 South Bay Rd.
  • Villa St. Gabriel Villa, 4690 Municipal Road 15
  • Extendicare Falconbridge, 281 Falconbridge Rd.

In addition, Pioneer Manor has cancelled all non-essential residents' passes, day programs, and appointments out of the care center. Pioneer Manor has also cancelled its hairdressing services and closed its Tuck Shop.

Volunteers and students will not be permitted entry.

"We recognize that this is a significant change for our residents and their family members," said Extendicare York in a Facebook post.

"The health and well-being of our residents, their families, and our staff is our number one priority."

** Please not this story has been updated to include Extendicare Falcobridge, who at the time of publication, had not announced any changes to their visitor policy.
