Students at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine's East Campus in Sudbury took part in an annual blood donor challenge Monday organized by the Canadian Federation of Medical Students.

The friendly challenge involves medical schools from across the country rallying to see who can donate the most blood.

Brandy Duhaime, communications specialist with Canadian Blood Services said about a dozen students and faculty members at the NOSM in Sudbury rolled up their sleeves to donate.

According to statistics from the Canadian Blood Services, less than four percent of eligible Canadians donate blood on a regular basis.

Canadian Blood Services is hoping that stronger ties to the medical community, and the medical practitioners of the future will go a long way towards meeting the demand for blood.

To book an appointment to donate, call 1-888-2-DONATE.
