NOSM’s dean top earner in Sudbury’s education sector

Northern Ontario School of Medicine’s dean, president and chief executive officer, Dr. Sarita Verma, was 2021’s top earner in the education sector in Greater Sudbury, said the province in its public sector salary disclosure.

The Sunshine List is a rundown of public-sector employees in Ontario who were paid at least $100,000 during the previous year. 

Verma was paid $355,341.12 in 2021, states the province’s public sector salary disclosure, released late Friday afternoon. Her taxable benefits totalled $16,104.44.

Another NOSM employee, Brian Ross, professor of pharmacology, is the next top earner in education. He was paid $341,175.32 in 2021, with taxable benefits totalling $5,499.40.

Rounding out the top earners at NOSM is Paul Paolatto, vice-dean, academic, who was paid $240,011.37 last year. His taxable benefits totalled $3,549.68.

There were 80 NOSM employees on the Sunshine List in 2021, which includes all public-sector employees who earn $100,000 or more.

Laurentian University

At Laurentian University, president Robert Haché was paid $271,750.96 last year. His taxable benefits totalled $15,463.20.

Marie Josée Berger, provost and vice-president, academic, took home the next-highest salary in 2021 at LU, being paid $216,015.31. Taxable benefits totalled $224.40.

Tammy Eger, vice-president, research, was paid $207,543.27 in 2021. Taxable benefits totalled $463.20.

There were 265 Laurentian employees on the list in 2021. 

Cambrian College

At Cambrian College, president Bill Best was paid the most in 2021. He was paid $255,411, with taxable benefits totalling $7,197.22.

The next highest-paid employee was Kristine Morrissey, vice-president, international, finance and administration, who was paid $195,330 in 2021, with taxable benefit totalling $6,911.29.

Paula Gouveia, vice-president academic, was paid $188,579.80 in 2021, with taxable benefit totalling $7,072.16.

There were 164 Cambrian employees on the list in 2021. 

College Boreal

At College Boréal, president Daniel Giroux was paid $260,004.76, with taxable benefits totalling $552.14.

Lyne Michaudm vice-president, academic, was paid $186,320.96, with taxable benefits totalling $471.58.

Michel Doucet, vice-president, corporate services, was paid $186,320.70, with taxable benefits totalling $471.58.

There were 101 College Boréal employees on the list in 2021. 

University of Sudbury

Lucien Pelletier, professor, University of Sudbury, was paid $288,771.36 in 2021 with taxable benefits totalling $208.78.

Rainbow District School Board

Bruce Bourget, director of education at Rainbow District School Board, was paid $192,429.04 in 2021. Taxable benefits totalled $6,161.76. There are 630 public sector employees at this board who were paid more than $100,000 in 2021.

Sudbury District Catholic 

Joanne Benard, director of education at Sudbury Catholic District School Board, was paid $193,086.81 in 2021, with taxable benefits totalling $0. There are 302 public sector employees at that school board who are paid more than $100,000 in 2021. 

Conseil Scolaire De District Catholique Du Nouvel-Ontario

Paul Henry, director of education at Conseil Scolaire De District Catholique Du Nouvel-Ontario, was paid $195,779.05 in 2021, with taxable benefits totalling $7,540.08. There are 380 public sector employees at that school board who were paid more than $100,000 last year.
