A note for those planning on travelling to Southern Ontario or back home along Highway 400 today — a snow squall warning is in effect for the Barrie, Collingwood, Hillsdale areas today into this evening.

Under the snow squall bands, visibilities will be significantly reduced due to the heavy snow combined with blowing snow, and snow will quickly accumulate.

Snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 cm are expected with these snow squalls. Strong winds up to 50 km/h are expected, causing areas of blowing snow. The main snow squall areas are expected to stay west of Barrie. Snow squalls should weaken overnight.

Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.
