Local school boards have started notifying parents that remote learning will continue next week.
Junior kindergarten to Grade 12 students in area schools have been learning online for nearly two weeks due to rising COVID-19 rates.
The local French Catholic school board, Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon, issued a press release on the subject Thursday afternoon.
“On the advice of Public Health Sudbury & Districts, all elementary and secondary schools from the Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon located in Sudbury East, Greater Sudbury and Espanola will remain closed until Thursday, April 1, 2021,” the press release said.
“Daycares located in our schools will however remain open but will not offer before and after-school programs.
“To support students in their learning, Kindergarten to Grade 12 students will pursue their learning at home in a virtual format. At the moment, the projected return date is Tuesday, April 6, 2021, after the Easter weekend."
Sudbury Catholic District School Board has issued a similar press release on its website.
“We have been informed by Public Health Sudbury and District, that schools will continue to be closed for face-to-face learning for the week of March 29 to April 1, 2021,” the press release said.
“As such, all elementary and secondary students will continue to engage in remote learning (unless otherwise advised) up to and including April 1, 2021. We will update parents and guardians as information becomes available.”
As of 3:20 p.m. Thursday, Public Health Sudbury & Districts had not yet put out a press release on the matter.
Active cases of COVID-19 in the region are at an all-time high — there were 316 active cases in the region March 24. Another 41 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the region Wednesday.
