Today is National Cupcake Day, the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society's annual fundraising campaign to give furry friends across Canada a second chance.
Throughout the month of February, rescue centres and the public have been encouraged to host a registered Cupcake Day party with proceeds benefiting the local shelter, SPCA or humane society of their choosing.
Today (Feb. 24), the Ontario SPCA Sudbury and District Animal Centre will be hosting one of its own to support the continued care of their dogs, cats and rodent-family friends.
Sweet treats will be available between the hours of 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. for the cost of a donation to the Sudbury and District Animal Centre.
Not big on sweets? You can support the cause by sending a virtual cupcake with a personal message and, or donate online by visiting nationalcupcakeday.ca.
“What better way to show you care about the animals in your community than to indulge in a mouth-watering cupcake?” said Jennifer Hughes, Ontario SPCA Sudbury & District Animal Centre manager in a press release.
“By participating in National Cupcake Day, you’re giving animals a second chance by supporting the life-changing work taking place in communities across Canada.”
National Cupcake Day has raised $3.15 million since its inception, from the production of 136,956 cupcakes, that went towards the care of 5,545 animals.
