One new forest fire in the Sudbury region reported today

There was one new forest fire confirmed in the Northeast region, on the afternoon of May 26.

Sudbury 17 was confirmed late Tuesday afternoon and is not yet under control. It measures 0.5 of a hectare and is located approximately seven kilometers west of Nairn Centre.

  • There are six other active fires across the Northeast. All of which are either under control or being observed.
  • The fire hazard ranges from low to high across the Northeast Region. Most areas located south of Sault Ste. Marie and Timmins are showing a moderate to high hazard, as is the westernmost portion of the Cochrane sector in the Far North.

Follow Ontario’s Outdoor Burning Regulations

Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services would like to remind the public to use caution when performing any outdoor burning. In order to dispose of yard waste and woody debris.

They are encouraging the public to use methods such as composting or using your local landfill. If you must burn, follow Ontario’s outdoor burning regulations.

Fires are to be ignited no sooner than two hours before sunset and extinguished no later than two hours after sunrise.

Always have tools/water adequate to contain the fire at the site.
