The city announced plans for the development of a centralized facility catering to the needs of the homeless and those at risk of being homeless yesterday.

The project involves relocating the day and evening programs offered by the Catholic Charities Soup Kitchen, the Elgin Street Mission, the Corner Clinic and Overcomers Group of Sudbury Inc., under one roof. The new facility will be located at 254 Shaughnessy St., presently the home of the soup kitchen.

Â?There is no better way to ensure the longevity of essential community programs than through cooperation,Â? said Mark Mieto, chief administrative officer for the city.

The community partners involved in the project will begin developing all aspects of the project, including capital funding, and the Social Planning Council of Sudbury will assist with the planning efforts.

For more information, call Mark Mieto at 671-2489, ext. 4216 or Mary Murdoch, coordinator of Emergency Shelters and Homeless Initiatives for the city at 688-3803.
