Public Health Sudbury and Districts (PHSD) published a statement on March 13, conveying the province's latest recommendations in light of the COVID-19 outbreak.

According to the press release, people of Ontario are encouraged to avoid all non-essential travel outside of Canada.

In response to recent positive cases in young children, all children who travel outside of Canada will be required to self-isolate for 14 days upon return.

Ontario's chief medical officer of health, Dr. Williams, has also advised all licensed child care centres to actively screen children, parents, staff and visitors for any symptoms and travel history that may be related to COVID-19. Similar to that asked of long-term care and retirement homes earlier in the month.

Dr. Williams is also recommending the immediate suspensions of all large events and public gatherings of over 250 people. Event organizers who have questions regarding small gatherings are encouraged to contact their local health unit.

"Dr. Williams is calling on all Ontarians to recognize the risk of attending public gatherings and to practice social distancing as much as possible until further notice to manage the spread of illness," said the press release.

"Organizations that can take advantage of virtual options to continue providing services are strongly encouraged to do so."

PHSD has tested 67 people as of noon on March 13, and there is still only the single case of the infection in Greater Sudbury.

The facility has received 1593 calls regarding the virus since March 11, including 355 March 13 as of 3 p.m.
