For the third consecutive Saturday this month, Public Health Ontario has reported a record number of new COVID-19 cases.
The province reported 1,588 new cases today. Previously, the highest number of daily cases reported was 1,581 on Nov. 14.
Ontario is also reporting 21 deaths today, which include six people between the ages of 60 and 79 years old, and 15 people over the age of 80. Thirteen of the people whose deaths were reported today were residents at long term care homes.
Since yesterday's report, 44 people have been hospitalized with the coronavirus and eight COVID patients have been admitted to intensive care units.
There were 1,363 new recoveries noted in today's update.
There are now 12,827 active, lab-confirmed cases in the province (an increase from 12,623 yesterday). Of those active cases, 51 people are hospitalized (down five from yesterday) and 146 COVID patients are being treated in intensive care units (up four from yesterday). There are 87 COVID-19 patients on ventilators in Ontario, which is down by five patients since yesterday.
Today's 1,588 new cases include 522 from Peel and 450 from Toronto. Both those regions are entering lockdown under provincial orders which kick-in on Monday at 12:01 a.m.
This week the province has reported 9,617 new cases of COVID-19, which is down from last week when the province reported 9,936 new cases. There were 140 COVID-related deaths confirmed this week, which is up from 112 last week.
To date the province has confirmed 102,378 cases of COVID-19 and reported 86,079 recoveries and 3,472 deaths.
Provincial labs processed 46,671 COVID tests since last report, producing a per cent positivity rate of 4.3 per cent. The province has now processed 5,873,378 COVID-19 tests.
- Algoma Public Health: 58 total cases. There is one known active case.
- North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 65 cases. There are 11 known active cases.
- Porcupine Health Unit: 106 total cases. There are four known active cases.
- Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 214 cases. There are 22 known active cases. The last cases were reported Nov. 20. Three people are hospitalized while awaiting test results for COVID-19. None are in the ICU.
- Timiskaming Health Unit: 18 total cases. There is one known active case.
- Northwestern Health Unit: 92 total confirmed cases, with two probable cases under investigation. There are 12 known active cases.
- Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 207 total cases. There are 65 known active cases. One person has been hospitalized.
The province's cumulative incidence rate is 688.7 cases per 100,000 people. The weekly incidence rate average for Ontario is around 66 cases per 100,000 people per week.
