Public Health Ontario has reported 3,732 new cases of COVID-19 today (May 2).
Today's report includes 3,947 recoveries and 23 new deaths.
The May 2 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:
- 37,200 active cases, which is down from 37,438 yesterday.
- 1,961 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, down from 2,152 reported yesterday.
- Public Health Ontario is also reporting that more than 10 per cent of hospitals did not submit data to the Daily Bed Census, which is often the case on weekends. An increase in the hospitalization number may increase when those hospitals report again
- There are 895 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (down from 900 yesterday) and 615 COVID patients on ventilators (down from 637 reported yesterday).
- The province reported 45,301 tests were processed yesterday.
- Another 20,091 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, 14.1 million tests have been completed.
- Of the 3,732 new cases reported today, 1,198 are from Toronto and 797 cases are from Peel.
Variants of concern (Ontario-wide)
- 72,313 lab-confirmed cases of the UK variant strain of COVID-19 (B.1.1.7).
- 291 cases of B.1.351 (also known as the South African variant).
- 875 cases of P.1, which is the variant strain that originated in Brazil.
Vaccines
- There were 76,685 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered on May 1, down from 107,700 administered on April 30.
- As of 8 p.m. on May 1, the province reported 5,324,369 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered.
- In total, 375,280 people have been fully vaccinated.
Public Health Ontario has confirmed 470,465 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 425,163 recoveries and 8,102 deaths, of which 3,918 were individuals living in long-term care facilities.
