Ontario reports 2,073 new COVID cases Tuesday

Today's update includes 117 new hospitalizations, 2,898 recoveries, and 15 deaths

Public Health Ontario has reported 2,073 new cases of COVID-19 today (May 11). 

Today's report includes 2,898 recoveries and 15 new deaths.

The deaths reported today include two people between 20 and 39 years old, six people between 60 and 79 years old, and seven people over 79 years old. 

Since yesterday, the province has reported 117 new hospitalizations and 23 new admissions of COVID-19 patients to intensive care units.

The May 11 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

  • 31,151 active, lab-confirmed cases, which is down from 31,991 reported yesterday. 
  • 1,782 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, up from 1,632 reported yesterday. 
  • There are 802 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (down from 828 yesterday) and 568 COVID patients on ventilators (up from 547 reported yesterday).
  • The province reported 28,109 tests were processed yesterday resulting in an 8.5 per cent positivity.
  • Another 24,915 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, 14.5 million tests have been completed.
  • Of the new cases reported today, 685 are from Toronto, 389 cases are from Peel, 231 are from York Region, and 39 are from Simcoe-Muskoka.
  • Today's cases include 379 individuals aged 19 and under, 861 people between 20 and 39 years old, 572 people between 40 and 59 years old, 220 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 42 people aged 80 and over.

Vaccines

  • There were 112,103 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered on May 10, which is up from 94,093 given on May 9.
  • As of 6 p.m. on May 10, the province reported 6,350,881 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered.
  • In total, 396,787 people have been fully vaccinated.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 497,092 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 457,599 recoveries and 8,342 deaths, of which 3,934 were individuals living in long-term care facilities.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,344.2 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate is 146 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 13.1 per cent from last week (April 25 to May 1).

In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:

  • Algoma Public Health: 348 cases, weekly rate of  10.5 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 351 cases. There are 19 known active cases. 
  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 386 cases, weekly rate of 23.1 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 388 cases. There are 33 known active cases. 
  • Porcupine Health Unit: 737 cases, weekly rate of 88.7 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 734 cases. There are 142 known active cases.
  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 1,996 cases, weekly rate of 27.1 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,018 cases. There are 80 known active cases. 
  • Timiskaming Health Unit: 197 cases, weekly rate of 39.8 cases per 100,000 people. There are 11 known active cases. 
  • Northwestern Health Unit: 1,005 cases, weekly rate of 68.4 cases per 100,000 people. There are 51 known active cases.
  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 3,143 cases, weekly rate of 22 cases per 100,000 people. There are 29 known active cases.
