Ontario reports 306 new COVID cases Wednesday

Public Health Ontario reported 306 new COVID cases today. 

The latest updates noted 527 recoveries and 12 deaths that have occurred in the last month. 

The Oct. 13 updates provided by the province's public health agency and the ministry of health also reported the following data:

  • 4,136 active, lab-confirmed cases, down from 4,369 yesterday. 
  • 242 people are hospitalized with COVID-19. 
  • There are 124 COVID-positive patients in the ICU plus another 29 patients no longer testing positive for COVID-19.
  • There are 81 COVID-positive patients on ventilators and another 21 patients on ventilators no longer testing positive for COVID. 
  • 10,756,935 Ontarians (about 72 per cent of the total population) have been fully vaccinated and another 605,442 (four per cent of Ontario population) have a single dose of COVID vaccine. 87 per cent of eligible Ontarians have at least one dose of vaccine.
  • The new cases reported today include 177 unvaccinated people, 14 partially vaccinated people, and 104 fully vaccinated people. 
  • There are 68 unvaccinated, six partially vaccinated, and 14 fully vaccinated COVID-19 patients in intensive care units.
  • There are 100 unvaccinated, 11 partially vaccinated, and 33 fully vaccinated COVID-19 patients hospitalized but not in the ICU. 
  • The seven-day average incidence rate by vaccination status is 8.2 cases per 100,000 unvaccinated people, 3.3 cases per 100,000 partially vaccinated people, and 1.4 cases per 100,000 fully vaccinated people. 
  • The province reported 23,219 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a 1.7 per cent positivity rate.
  • Of the new cases reported today, 68 are from Toronto, 18 are from Peel, 11 are from Simcoe-Muskoka, and 29 are from York Region.
  • Today's new cases include 68 individuals under 12 years old, 37 youth between 12 and 19 years old, 87 people between 20 and 39 years old, 72 people between 40 and 59 years old, 33 people between 60 and 79 years old, and nine people over 79 years old.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 593,020 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 579,080 recoveries and 9,804 deaths.

Since the start of the pandemic, 30,194 people have been hospitalized with COVID and 5,903 of them were in intensive care units.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 4,024.8 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate last week was 26 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 5.1 per cent compared to the week of Sept. 27 to Oct. 3.

Northern Ontario

In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:

  • Algoma Public Health: 478 cases, weekly rate of 4.2 cases per 100,000 people. There are 6 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 89 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 84 per cent have both doses.
  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 787 cases, weekly rate of 20.9 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 789 cases. There are 19 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 85 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 80 per cent have both doses.
  • Porcupine Health Unit: 2,209 cases, weekly rate of 0 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,211 cases. There are no known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 88 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 80 per cent have both doses.
  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 2,492 cases, weekly rate of 29.2 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,526 cases. There are 73 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 89 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 83 per cent have both doses.
  • Timiskaming Health Unit: 233 cases, weekly rate of 35.4 cases per 100,000 people.  The health unit has reported 235 cases. There are 10 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 86 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 80 per cent have both doses.
  • Northwestern Health Unit: 1,184 cases, weekly rate of 4.9 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,185 cases. There are 5 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 88 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 81per cent have both doses.
  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 3,396 cases, weekly rate of 0 cases per 100,000 people. There is one known active case. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 92 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 86 per cent have both doses.
