Ontario reports 355 new COVID cases Saturday

Today's update also includes 581 recoveries and 13 deaths

Public Health Ontario has reported 355 new COVID-19 cases in its latest report (June 19).

Today's update also includes 581 new recoveries and 13 deaths. 

The June 19 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

  • 3,871 active cases, down from 4,110 yesterday.
  • 336 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, down from 378 yesterday.
  • There are 335 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (down from 352 yesterday) and 196 COVID patients on ventilators (down from 221  reported yesterday).
  • The province reported 25,368 tests were processed yesterday.
  • Another 9,299 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, 15.7 million tests have been completed.

Variants of concern (Ontario-wide)

  • 141,986 lab-confirmed cases of the UK variant strain of COVID-19 (B.1.1.7). 
  • 1,154 cases of B.1.351 (also known as the South African variant).
  • 4,229 cases of P.1, which is the variant strain that originated in Brazil. 
  • 731 cases of the B.1.617.2 variant.
  • Another 34,852 cases have screened positive with a mutation detected, but the lineage for the variant strain not yet detected.
  • According to Public Health Ontario, there are delays between specimen collection and the testing required to confirm a variant of concern. As such, the reports can change and can differ from past case counts publicly reported.

Vaccines

  • There were 213,236 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered yesterday, up from 210,638 on June 18.
  • 12,366,899 doses of vaccine have been administered.
  • In total, 2,725,302 people have been fully vaccinated.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 541,880 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 529,002 recoveries and 9,007 deaths, 3,965 of those in long-term care homes.
