Ontario reports 373 new COVID cases Monday

The latest updates noted 423 recoveries and two new deaths

Public Health Ontario reported 373 new COVID cases today. 

The latest updates noted 423 recoveries and two new deaths that occurred in the last month. 

The Oct. 18 updates provided by the province's public health agency and the ministry of health also reported the following data:

  • 3,846 active, lab-confirmed cases, down from 3,898 yesterday. 
  • 145 people are hospitalized with COVID-19. Hospitalization numbers are incomplete as some hospitals don't report their bed census on weekends. 
  • There are 138 COVID-positive patients in the ICU plus another 30 patients no longer testing positive for COVID-19.
  • There are 80 COVID-positive patients on ventilators and another 17 patients on ventilators no longer testing positive for COVID. 
  • 10,838,750 Ontarians (about 72 per cent of the total population) have been fully vaccinated. 87 per cent of eligible Ontarians have at least one dose of vaccine.
  • The new cases reported today include 214 unvaccinated people, 17 partially vaccinated people, and 108 fully vaccinated people. There are 34 cases where the vaccination status is unknown because of missing health card data.
  • Vaccination status for hospitalized cases is not updated on Sunday or Monday.
  • The seven-day average incidence rate by vaccination status is 6.7 cases per 100,000 unvaccinated people, 2.6 cases per 100,000 partially vaccinated people, and 1.3 cases per 100,000 fully vaccinated people.
  • The province reported 20,432 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a 1.8 per cent positivity rate.
  • Of the new cases reported today, 62 are from Toronto, 71 are from Peel, 13 are from Simcoe-Muskoka, and 18 are from York Region.
  • Today's new cases include 86 individuals under 12 years old, 24 youth between 12 and 19 years old, 116 people between 20 and 39 years old, 97 people between 40 and 59 years old, 45 people between 60 and 79 years old, and five people over 79 years old.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 595,235 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 581,574 recoveries and 9,815 deaths.

Since the start of the pandemic, 30,328 people have been hospitalized with COVID and 5,932 of them were in intensive care units.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 4,039.9 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate last week was 21.1 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 20.1 per cent compared to the week of Oct. 8.

Northern Ontario

In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:

  • Algoma Public Health: 483 cases, weekly rate of 3.4 cases per 100,000 people. There are 8 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 89 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 84 per cent have both doses.
  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 793 cases, weekly rate of 6.2 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 795 cases. There are 9 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 85 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 80 per cent have both doses.
  • Porcupine Health Unit: 2,214 cases, weekly rate of 4.7 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,216 cases. There are 5 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 88 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 80 per cent have both doses.
  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 2,529 cases, weekly rate of 18.5 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,542 cases. There are 65 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 89 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 83 per cent have both doses.
  • Timiskaming Health Unit: 234 cases, weekly rate of 8.9 cases per 100,000 people.  The health unit has reported 237 cases. There are 5 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 86 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 80 per cent have both doses.
  • Northwestern Health Unit: 1,189 cases, weekly rate of 2.5 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,186 cases. There are 3 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 88 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 81per cent have both doses.
  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 3,398 cases, weekly rate of 1.3 cases per 100,000 people. There are 2 known active cases. Of the eligible population 12 years and older, 92 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 86 per cent have both doses.
