Public Health Ontario has reported 4,401 new cases of COVID-19 today (April 12).
Today's report includes 2,445 recoveries and 15 new deaths.
The deaths reported today include two people between 40 and 59 years old, six people between 60 and 79 years old, and seven people over the age of 79 years old.
The province has reported 127 new hospitalizations since yesterday, and 27 new admissions of COVID-19 patients to intensive care units.
The April 12 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:
- 34,758 active cases, which is up from 32,817 yesterday. This is the highest number of active, lab-confirmed cases reported by the province during the pandemic.
- 1,646 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, up from 1,513 reported yesterday.
- There are 619 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (up from 605 yesterday) and 408 COVID patients on ventilators (up from 382 reported yesterday)
- The province reported 47,929 tests were processed yesterday resulting in a 9.5 per cent positivity rate. The highest rate ever reported by the province was 9.7 per cent (Jan. 4, 2021 and Dec. 29, 2020).
- Another 24,796 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, 13.1 million tests have been completed.
- Of the 4,401 new cases reported today, 1,282 are from Toronto, 772 cases are from Peel, 564 are from York Region, and 135 are from Simcoe-Muskoka
- There are 49 active outbreaks at long-term care homes, 31 at retirement homes, and 40 at hospitals.
- The new cases reported today include 858 individuals aged 19 and under, 1,601 people between 20 and 39 years old, 1,303 people between 40 and 59 years old, 567 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 71 people aged 80 and over.
Vaccines
- There were 74,722 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered on April 11, which is down from 94,794 doses on April 10.
- As of 6 p.m. on April 11, the province reported 3,214,465 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered.
- In total, 333,419 people have been fully vaccinated.
Public Health Ontario has confirmed 391,009 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 348,684 recoveries and 7,567 deaths, of which 3,908 were individuals living in long-term care facilities.
The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 2,630.5 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.
The weekly incidence rate in Ontario is 155.8 cases per 100,000 people, which is an increase of 27.8 per cent from last week (March 27 to April 2).
In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:
- Algoma Public Health: 270 cases, rate of 235.9 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 269 cases. There are 42 known active cases, including one person who is temporarily in the region but the case is not part of the local numbers. There are three confirmed cases of the UK (B.1.1.7) variant of concern. Three tests have screened positive for a variant of concern but the strain is not known yet.
- North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 311 cases, rate of 239.7 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 315 cases. There are 16 known active cases. There have been 29 confirmed cases of the United Kingdom (B.1.1.7) variant, and 27 confirmed cases of the South African (B.1.351) variant of concern. There are 15 tests where variants have been detected but the strain is not known yet.
- Porcupine Health Unit: 407 cases, rate of 487.8 per 100,000 people. There are 42 known active cases. There have been four confirmed cases of the UK (B.1.1.7) strain and two confirmed cases of the South African (B.1.351) variant of concern. There are three tests where a variant has been detected but the strain is not known yet.
- Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 1,684 cases, rate of 846.1 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,699. There are 238 known active cases. There have been 13 confirmed UK (B.1.1.7) variants of concern. There are 490 tests where variants have been detected but the strain is not known yet.
- Timiskaming Health Unit: 130 cases, rate of 397.7 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 131 cases. There are no known active cases. There have been 21 confirmed cases of the UK (B.1.1.7) variant and one case of the South African (B.1.351) variant of concern. There is one test where a variant has been detected but the strain is not known yet.
- Northwestern Health Unit: 755 cases, rate of 861.1 per 100,000 people. There are 63 known active cases. There have been six confirmed cases of the UK (B.1.1.7) variant. There are 15 tests where variants have been detected but the strain is not known yet.
- Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 2,974 cases, rate of 1983.2 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,975 cases. There are 91 known active cases. There are four tests where a variant has been detected but the strain is not known yet.
