Are you planning on attending the Santa Claus Parade Saturday evening? How about The Offspring concert at Sudbury Arena?

Here's the thing: they are both happening Saturday, and that means parking downtown will be stressed (and stressful).

There are options, though. The city has 438 metered parking spots downtown, as well as eight pay and display lots, special events and private parking.

“We suggest residents do a little bit of homework before leaving home, and have options for parking, just in case your preferred parking lot is full,” said Shannon Dowling, spokesperson for the city.

Sudbury Transit would be the best option, though, she said. Parking farther away and taking a bus to the downtown would mean no problems with finding parking.

For example, it would be easy to park at the New Sudbury Centre or the GOVA South End Hub at Walmart and there are direct lines to the downtown, Dowling said.

“It will make it much easier for you,” Dowling said. “Transit is definitely your best option if you don't want to worry about where you're going to park.”

Visit Greatersudbury.ca for a list of parking areas, or give the Hot Spot app a try.
