A “meet and greet” event with Greater Sudbury city council candidates in wards 5 and 6 takes place at the Monte Vista Golf Club in Val Caron from 4-8 p.m. Oct. 10.

The event is being co-hosted by Sam Yawney, co-owner of Golf Sudbury, and the Valley East Community Action Network (VECAN).

“During the evening people will be able to drop in and talk to their candidates without the need to sit through a long debate,” said a press release.

“There will be no public speeches. Each candidate will be given a table where he/she can remain to speak to the public and distribute campaign literature.”

Besides city council candidates in this area, trustee candidates for Zone 6 with Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario have been invited to take part. Trustee candidates in the area for the other three school boards were acclaimed.

Mayor Brian Bigger has also confirmed he will attend, and organizers expect most of the other mayoral candidates will also attend.

As a special gesture of appreciation to the community for their overwhelming support of Monte Vista since he took over the club, Yawney will be providing everyone who attends with a free spaghetti and meat sauce plate for dinner.

Refreshments and additional side dishes will be available from the regular menu, but the main course is free of charge.
