Ontario?s most aptly-named provincial party leader is paying Sudbury a visit Thursday to speak about his vision for the province.

Progressive Conservative leader John Tory is the guest speaker at a $200 a plate fundraiser for the party at the Holiday Inn on Regent St.

The event starts at 6 pm with a reception, and Tory speaks over dinner at 7 pm.

Former Harris and Eves government cabinet ministers Jim Flaherty and Frank Klees may also attend the event, says organizer Bob Lamoureux.

The dinner gives local PCs the chance to meet Tory, who was elected as party leader just over a year ago. ?He?s a respected businessman, he?s a lawyer, he knows the lay of the land, and I think he has the right name too. He must have been born for this job,? jokes Lamoureux.

Tory joined his colleagues in parliament in March after he won a by-election in Dufferin-Peel-Wellington-Gray. Former PC leader and Ontario premier Ernie Eves stepped down as MPP for the area to give him a chance at the seat.

The PC leader is also known for finishing second to David Miller in the 2003 Toronto mayoral race, and as former president and CEO of Rogers Media Inc.

Tory holds liberal views on a number of issues, including same-sex marriage, but is also a proponent of tax cuts.

Lamoureux says when he meets Tory, he?ll ask him to look into ensuring money earned in Sudbury?s mining sector is invested in this area.

?There should be a fund just like they have for the oil reserves in Alberta, so that we get to keep some of the money in Northern Ontario as a mining fund or development fund,? he says.

The event organizer hopes the PCs will make inroads across the province and in the Sudbury and Nickel Belt ridings in the next provincial election, which is set for Oct. 4, 2007.

?We?re working toward the election, trying to get some good candidates to come forward. With that in mind, and a good election campaign, I think we?ve got a good shot at it,? he says.
