Nickel Masonic Lodge No. 427 and Peavey Mart Hardware have teamed up to help keep vulnerable people warm this winter.

The lodge accepted a “major donation” of winter socks courtesy of Peavey Mart this month.

“This was a very significant donation which will be added to cold weather/winter clothing already collected by the members of Nickel Masonic Lodge,” the Masons said in a news release. “The clothing is collected at the turn of the New Year to be distributed to the homeless, vulnerable and at-risk people in need as the coldest period of the winter approaches.”

Dry socks not only keep feet warm but help prevent foot ailments.

“We are delighted to be able to support such community initiatives for the help of the less fortunate,” said Patti Warner, assistant manager of Peavey Mart Sudbury, in a news release.

The clothing collected by Lodge No. 427 was delivered to community outreach group the Go-Give Project for distribution.

“It is vital that those in need in our community are assured of some warm clothing to give them the greatest protection against the weather and challenges associated with their situation,” said Greg Bloome, who co-ordinated the project for the Nickel Lodge.
