Photos: Future students pack Cambrian for open house

Annual event offered campus tours, swag, fun activities and on-site applications

Cambrian College hosted one of its biggest events on the calendar on April 5 as future and prospective students packed the New Sudbury campus for the annual spring open house.

The four-hour open house is the go-to event for students who have accepted their offer for the upcoming year, or for potential students who are still thinking of applying to Cambrian College.

The event drew parents and students from Greater Sudbury and northeastern Ontario, as well as from farther afield. Tye Lamothe travelled from Carleton Place with his parents to check the school out before starting Cambrian’s Pre-Trades program, which introduces students to the fundamentals of the electrical, mechanical and carpentry trades.

Besides the tours and activities, those on hand enjoyed free food at various stations across campus, including some delicious fry bread and other goodies in the Wabnode Centre for Indigenous Services.

There was also an abundance of swag to pick up. And those students who already received an offer from the college got to leave with a free Cambrian-branded Under Armour backpack.

Students and staff also put on a bit of performance in the gym, with pro-level obstacle course competitions that didn’t fail to draw a crowd.

Civil engineering students also put on a show, testing their skills in the 26th annual headframe challenge.

Cambrian College offers more than 100 programs in trades, arts and other disciplines, as well as offering degree-level programs in nursing, business administration and psychology.
