Photos: Lansdowne P.S. kids put their feet to the pavement at school's Terry Fox Run

A number of Rainbow board schools held their own Terry Fox event

Throughout September, students attending Rainbow District School Board schools put their feet to the pavement in support of The Terry Fox Foundation.

For more than 30 years, The Terry Fox Foundation has worked to achieve Terry’s vision - a world without cancer.

Terry Fox runs are held in communities across the nation each year to raise funds for cancer research.

Sudbury.com co-op student Ryan Marcotte headed out to Lansdowne Public School's Terry Fox Run Sept. 26 and captured these photos.

The school raised $638 for the cause, which teacher Matthew Davie said was its highest-ever total.

Terry Fox was was a Canadian athlete, humanitarian, and cancer research activist. In 1980, with one leg having been amputated due to cancer, he embarked on an east to west cross-Canada run to raise money and awareness for cancer research.

Although the spread of his cancer eventually forced him to end his quest after 143 days and 5,373 kilometres, and ultimately cost him his life (he passed away in 1981 at the age of 22), his efforts resulted in a lasting, worldwide legacy.
