Police seize 2.7 kilograms of cocaine in search warrants

A joint effort between Greater Sudbury Police Service and the Durham Regional Police resulted in the seizure of 2.7 kilograms of cocaine and nearly 300 grams of fentanyl.

Nearly 2.7 kilograms of cocaine and 300 grams of fentanyl were seized in a joint effort between Greater Sudbury Police Service, Durham Regional Police, and the Provincial Joint Forces Guns and Gangs Enforcement Team.

This, in addition to a loaded nine-millimetre magazine, more than $97,000 in Canadian currency and $1,000 in counterfeit money.

Six people were arrested in the drug trafficking operation, which police report in a media release reached from the Greater Toronto Area to Sudbury.

They were charged, without incident, and now face numerous charges under the Criminal Code and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. 

The police investigation began in August 2022.

Search warrants were executed in Sudbury, Toronto and Ajax on March 29, resulting in the drug, gun and cash seizure.

Of those arrested, two people from Ajax were charged with:

  • Conspiracy to commit an indictable offence
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – fentanyl

Another Ajax suspect was charged with:

  • Proceeds of crime
  • Possession of a prohibited device – extended magazine
  • Possession of counterfeit money

Another Ajax suspect was charged with:

  • Proceeds of crime
  • Possession of a prohibited device – extended magazine
  • Breach Prohibition Order

Another Ajax suspect was charged with:

  • Trafficking in a controlled substance - six counts
  • Proceeds of Crime

A Pickering resident was charged with: 

  • Trafficking in a controlled substance – seven counts
  • Proceeds of Crime
  • Possession of a prohibited device – extended magazine

The accused were held in custody to appear for bail hearings today in front of the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury.

The police investigation is ongoing.

The OPP-led Provincial Joint Forces Guns and Gangs Enforcement Team is made up of 23 municipal, provincial and federal law enforcement agencies who work to disrupt street gang networks and their associated criminal activities.
