Kim Sweeney recently presented the MS Society with a cheque for more than $6,000 raised through a recent fundraiser in memory of her sister, 1998 murder victim Renée Sweeney, and their late parents.

She held a porketta bingo fundraiser at the Beef 'N Bird May 24, and brought in a grand total of $6,134.65.

Sweeney said the fundraiser was part of her Honouring Renée Campaign in the wake of the arrest of Robert Steven Wright in Renée's murder last year.

The campaign also involved Sweeney creating car decals in her sister's memory. Donations that came in as a result of the decals went to SPCA Sudbury, Pet Save and the MS Society.

“I chose to have all of the proceeds donated to the MS Society because it is something that is close to home for me, as both my parents suffered with multiple sclerosis,” Sweeney said in an email to Sudbury.com.

“Prior to the event, myself as well as some friends had gone around to a bunch of local businesses collecting donations for this event.

“I was overwhelmed with the response for this. It shows in the numbers at the end of the day and it is all thanks to the wonderful people of Sudbury and area.”
