Prepare for service disruptions: city

City officials say a job action planned by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 4705 and Local 148 for Thursday, Feb. 23 will have an impact on local municipal government services.

City officials say a job action planned by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 4705 and Local 148 for Thursday, Feb. 23 will have an impact on local municipal government services.

CUPE is protesting the provincial government's planned amendments to the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS). CUPE's issue is not with the Greater Sudbury but rather with legislation proposed by the province.

In a press release issued Wednesday morning, the city said it's anticipating disruptions to some municipal services as a result of the job action, and will inform the community what services may be at risk.

The city will maintain fire and emergency medical services (land ambulance). Public transit will also continue to operate.
