Pride Week gets officially underway Tuesday when Sudbury's gay community raises its flag at Tom Davies Square.

Activities for the gay community and their friends includes pool tournaments, parties, entertainment and movie nights at Zig?s Bar at 54 Elgin St.

?We?ve scheduled these events mostly at our community bar, Zig?s,? said Chantal, an organizer for Pride Week.

?Zig?s Bar is a wonderful place for us to congregate. Probably a quarter of patrons are friends of the gay community and people who just want to have a really good time.?

Chantal noted Zig's is a safe environment for gays.

?We?re going with a new philosophy this year on our organizing committees, if someone has a goal, wants to do something, an event, we?re saying do it, have a really good time doing it. So on our French movie night (Wednesday), we may have some interesting fare for you,? she said.

Thursday night will be an all ages get-together at Zig?s. ?It?s an important night for the youth,? she said.

Fiery guitarist and singer Australian Emma Wall will entertain Friday. She?s fresh from the Woman Voices Festival in Ottawa. Another highlight that night will be comedian Linda Ellis who has played Yuk Yuk?s in Toronto.

On Saturday Pride Week wraps up with the annual Gay Pride Parade beginning at 11:30 am at Tom Davies Square.

Pride Week is not just an excuse to have fun, said Chantal. ?A big thing this year is that we?ll be donating to two homeless shelters for youth. We?ll be challenging all Sudburians to match our donations of hygiene products and other stuff.?

Donations can be dropped off to the box at Zig?s Bar.
