Proulx 'inspired a generation of women,' says Mayor

Mayor Marianne Matichuk expressed her condolences on the death of Rachel Proulx over the Christmas holidays.

Proulx, 57, passed away at Health Sciences North during the evening of Dec. 26 after a long battle with multiple sclerosis.

She was president of Greater Sudbury Business and Professional Women's Club (BPW Greater Sudbury) from 1989-1990 as well as BPW Canada from 1998-2000, and had recently received her 25-year pin from BPW Greater Sudbury.

Proulx owned her own business training company, was the founding president of Collège Boréal and volunteered with YWCA Sudbury and the Sudbury chapter of the MS Society of Canada.

“Proulx was a leader in the business community, she believed in education and a strong public service, and she worked hard to mentor women in business and politics,” Matichuk said in a press release, speaking on behalf of city council.

“She inspired a generation of women in Greater Sudbury, and she will be very dearly missed.”

Proulx's family is asking for donations to the Sudbury chapter of the MS Society of Canada in her memory.
