College Boreal and Cambrian College received a $2.1 million gift from the provincial government Friday.

Cambrian College gets $1,366,492 and College Boreal $778,807. The funding is part of a province-wide investment designed to target the needs of northern, rural and small colleges in Ontario.

The funding, which was first announced in the 2005 budget, will allow the colleges in increase their program offering, improve access for students and to improve student success.

"Our government recognizes that colleges in our area face challenges not experienced by their larger urban counterparts," said Sudbury MPP Rick Bartolucci in a release.

"This funding is yet another step we are taking to create a level playing field so that students in Sudbury and Northeastern Ontario have opportunities for a high quality education."
