Three Sudbury community organizations providing HIV/AIDS education and support services will receive $739,209 from the province to assist with increased needs and growing service demands.
Today, Dec. 1, is World AIDS Day.
“With strong roots in the community, these organizations provide essential support services for local residents living with HIV/AIDS as well as education and prevention strategies for those most at risk of acquiring the disease,” said Sudbury MPP Rick Bartolucci, in a release.
Funding will be allocated to the following local agencies:
Access AIDS Network, $601,820, increase of $38,750 from last year
Sudbury Action Centre for Youth, $80,996, increase of $7,000 from last year
Sudbury and District Health Unit, $56,393, increase of $1,500 from last year
Province-wide, the government is providing a total of $33.7 million to community-based HIV/AIDS education and support programs across the province for people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS, and for those most at risk of acquiring HIV/AIDS.
“Community-based HIV/AIDS services are a vital part of our government’s response to the HIV epidemic,” concluded Bartolucci. “These organizations, and the committed people who work there, help people living with HIV/AIDS maintain healthy, productive lives and provide education to others at risk."
