The Rainbow District School Board will begin implementing smaller class sizes in junior kindergarten to Grade 3 this fall.

It?s the first step in the Ministry of Education?s efforts to give students the individual attention they need to improve reading, writing and math.

The board has received $630,000 from the province to hire additional primary classroom teachers, and purchase additional learning materials and classroom supplies for primary grades.

Board chair Dena Morrison said this is a start toward achieving the Ministry of Education?s goal of capping primary class sizes at 20 students.

This is the initial investment in a four-year initiative.
