Public Health Sudbury & Districts revealed two more COVID-19-related deaths occurred on Friday, bringing the number of deaths during October to 10.
There were no new deaths reported on Monday, but the daily summary showed 89 new cases for Monday and the weekend. This brings the cumulative total of COVID cases in Sudbury to 20,341 for the past two years and eight months.
Most of those cases — 20,004 — have been resolved. The majority of those cases (6,675) have involved the 20 to 39 age group.
The two most recent deaths reported on Friday were described as occurring in Greater Sudbury. In one case, COVID-19 was described as the underlying cause of death. In the other case, it was reported COVID contributed to, but was not the underlying cause of death.
Since March 2020, there have been 185 COVID-related deaths assigned to the Sudbury public health jurisdiction. As we come to the end of October, there were 138 COVID related deaths so far this year. As of January 1, of 2022, there were only 47 deaths in Sudbury.
At Health Sciences North on Monday, there were 58 confirmed cases of COVID being treated with one patient assigned to the Intensive Care Unit. The hospital also reported there are three active COVID outbreaks in the following units:
- COVID-19 outbreak on level 8 of the North tower, RLHC (declared October 4, 2022).
- COVID-19 outbreak on level 4 of the North tower, RLHC (declared October 7, 2022).
- COVID-19 outbreak on the Addictions Medicine Unit (AMU), Lodge 3, RLHC (declared October 31, 2022).
The hospital also reminds the public that units where there is an active COVID outbreak have no Designated Care Partners/Visitors. An exception may be considered for compassionate reasons or end-of-life.
Also, as of October 31, 2022 the COVID Risk Index for Sudbury remains in the High category.
