Public Health reporting outbreaks at Manitoulin Lodge, Elizabeth Centre

Outbreaks now reported at five long-term care facilities

Public Health Sudbury & Districts is reporting outbreaks at two more long-term care centres, bringing the total number of cases in the region to 64.

This evening, Public Health reported an outbreak at Manitoulin Lodge after one employee tested positive for COVID-19, and at the Elizabeth Centre after one employee and one resident tested positive.

All three people had been tested as part of pandemic surveillance of long-term care facilities, Public Health reported. 

Manitoulin Lodge is in Gore Bay, while the Elizabeth Centre is in Val Caron. Both facilities are operated by Jarlette Health Services.

The Manitoulin Lodge employee is a woman in her 50s who had no contact with a known case and no history of travel. She is self-isolating, The cases at the Elizabeth Centre include a person under age 19 whose gender was not made public, and a woman in her 70s. Public Health was unable to link either case to any known positive case.

There are active outbreaks at five facilities in the region with two cases among residents and four among staff. Outbreaks have been declared resolved at three other long-term care centres. Three cases among patients and six among staff were resolved. One person has died, the health unit reported this evening.
