Public Health Sudbury reports 18 new COVID-19 cases Sunday

Public Health Sudbury & Districts reported another 18 COVID-19 cases in the area today.

That brings the number of confirmed cases of the virus in the region since the pandemic began to 784.

Seventeen of the new cases are in Greater Sudbury, while one is in the Sudbury District.

We now have 181 active cases of COVID-19 in the region, an increase of eight over yesterday. There have been 10 new resolved cases since Saturday.

Another 23 people have screened positive for a variant of concern, the health unit reports.

As for the probable exposure status of cases, Public Health Sudbury said that over the past day, they have determined that six cases are outbreak-associated, six are through a close contact of a confirmed case and there are two with no known epidemiological link.

There is a decrease of three cases in the “under investigation” category.

The health unit said five of the cases are in the 19 and under category, eight are aged 20-29, five are aged 40-59 and one is 80 and over. 

It also said 1,078 COVID-19 tests have been performed in the region over the past day.

There are currently no admitted patients at Health Sciences North that have confirmed cases of COVID-19, although two are under investigation for the virus.
