Public Health Sudbury reports 43 new cases of COVID-19 for Nov. 26

Health unit currently monitoring 288 active cases in the region

Public Health Sudbury and Districts (PHSD) has reported 43 new cases of COVID-19 in the local jurisdiction for Nov. 26. 

The health unit is also reporting there are now 288 active cases that are being monitored. Also, since the PHSD began tracking COVID-19 cases just over 20 months ago, there have been 3,719 total COVID-19 cases confirmed locally. PHSD also said 3,431 of those cases are now resolved. As for the possible location of the new cases, PHSD said 39 new cases were reported to have occurred in Greater Sudbury and three cases were assigned to the rural Sudbury district. 

With respect to the possible causes of new and recent cases, PHSD reported nine new cases related to outbreak, 22 new cases related to close contact of confirmed cases, and 14 cases with no known epidemiological link.

PHSD also reported general demographics each day about the ages of people who are becoming infected.

Epidemiological data showed that the majority of local cases are persons in the 20 to 39 age category with 1,322 total cases (An increase of eight).

There were also 956 cases for the 19 and under age group (An increase of 19).

The next highest number was 875 for the 40-59 age group (An increase of 13).

Seniors in the 60 to 79 age group amounted to 425 cases total (An increase of three). 

People aged 80 and over are currently the lowest category with 133 cases (No increase).

There were no cases listed in the unspecified age category.

With respect to COVID-19 testing, PHSD said there have been 325,035 total tests carried out locally since the pandemic began, an increase of 911 since the last report on Thursday. With respect to vaccination numbers, PHSD reported there were 274,900 total accumulated vaccines (first and second dose) given in the local jurisdiction. This also included 125,798 of those who are fully vaccinated.

The health unit has also reported there are several active local outbreaks and several recent exposure risks. Two new outbreaks were declared as of yesterday, one among the Sudbury Lady Wolves U13 BB team and one at the Dance Evolution studio in New Sudbury.

Also, at Sudbury's Health Sciences North, there are 21 patients with confirmed COVID-19 at the hospital, said the hospital website. Seven of those patients are in the intensive care unit. In addition to this there are 17 admitted patients "being tested" for COVID-19. HSN said none of the 17 patients was admitted to the ICU (Intensive Care Unit). Outbreaks have been declared on the fourth floor of the North Tower at HSN and at the Withdrawal Management Services office on Pine Street.

On the provincial COVID-19 roster today, the Ontario government daily website reported 927 new confirmed COVID-19 cases across the province. Also today, the province reported five new COVID-19 deaths.
