Public Health Sudbury reports 88 new cases of COVID-19 for Nov. 22

Public Health Sudbury and Districts (PHSD) reports 88 new cases of COVID-19 for today, Nov. 22. This includes new cases from the weekend as well, as Public Health Sudbury does not provide COVID-19 case updates on the weekend.

PHSD also said there are now 258 active cases being monitored by public health officials.  

Also, since the PHSD began tracking COVID-19 cases, there have been 3,572 total COVID-19 cases confirmed locally. PHSD also said 3,314 of those cases have now been resolved.

With respect to where the newest COVID-19 cases might have occurred, the PHSD daily update page reported that 79 cases were found in the Greater Sudbury area, and nine were found in the Manitoulin District.

In terms of possible causes of the new and recent cases, PHSD reported 56 cases are close contact of a confirmed case, 22 are linked to an outbreak, one was travel related, 30 have no known epidemiological link, and 21 remain under investigation.

PHSD also reports general demographics each day about the people who are becoming infected.

Epidemiological data showed that the majority of local cases are persons in the 20 to 39 age category with 1,286 total cases (an increase of 24).

The next highest group number was 891 cases for the 19 and under age group (an increase of 43).

The next highest number was 837 cases for the 40 to 59 age group (and increase of 17).

Seniors in the 60 to 79 age group amounted to 417 cases total (an increase of four), and people aged 80 and over are currently the lowest category with 133 cases (no increase).

The numbers above may not completely correspond with the daily case count because PHSD does not always report changes on the day they occur.

With respect to COVID-19 testing, 321,601 tests have been performed in the PHSD region as of Nov. 22, an increase of 1,149 since the last PHSD test report.

In terms of vaccination, 272,477 people have received their first or second doses, while 125,506 are fully vaccinated.  

PHSD is reporting 21 active outbreaks in the area. Of those, 12 are school outbreaks. You can find the full list of active and resolved outbreaks here, just scroll to the bottom of the page.

Also, at Sudbury's Health Sciences North, as of Nov. 22, there are 21 admitted patients with COVD-19, seven of whom are in the ICU. There is also an active outbreak on the fourth floor of the North Tower.

On the provincial COVID-19 register today, the Ontario government daily website reported 627 new confirmed COVID-19 cases across the province. Also today, the province reported one new deaths had occurred in the previous 24 hours.
