Public Health Sudbury & Districts (PHSD) has reported three new cases of COVID-19. PHSD also reports 20 active cases being watched locally.
Also, since the PHSD began tracking COVID-19 cases just over 15 months ago, there have been 2,126 total COVID-19 cases confirmed locally. PHSD also said 2,106 of those cases have now been resolved. The details were reported on the PHSD website.
With respect to where the cases might have occurred, PHSD reported that one case occurred in Greater Sudbury and two cases in the rural Sudbury district.
As to how the new cases might have been caused, PHSD said there were two cases of close contact of a confirmed case and one additional case under investigation.
PHSD also reports general demographics each day about the people who are becoming infected.
Epidemiological data showed that the majority of local cases are persons in the 20 to 39 age category with 693 total cases (no increase). The next highest group number was 542 cases for the 40 to 59 age group (no increase). The next highest number was 493 cases for the 19 and under age group (no increase).
Seniors in the 60 to 79 age group amounted to 300 cases total (no increase). People aged 80 and over are currently the lowest category with 94 cases (no increase).
There was an increase of three cases reported in the "unspecified category". There are now three cases in that category.
The numbers above may not completely correspond with the daily case count because PHSD does not always report changes on the day they occur.
With respect to COVID-19 testing, 256,434 tests have been performed in the PHSD region as of June 15 (no increase).
As for local vaccinations, PHSD reported a cumulative total of 144,234 vaccines given in the entire PHSD area as of June 16 at 4 p.m.
PHSD is also reporting there are still six cases of "confirmed" variants of the COVID-19 virus.
There are 940 cases that are "screened positive" for variants of concern; an increase on two over the last count.
PHSD said additional time is required to genetically sequence the virus in a positive sample and confirm it as a COVID-19 variant of concern.
PHSD has also reported there is one active outbreak in the area, at Flying Post Camp Logistics at the IAMGOLD - Cote Lake Mine Project, near Highway 144 just North of the Watershed. It was declared on Saturday June 12, 2021.
Also, at Sudbury's Health Sciences North, as of June 15 there were two patients with confirmed COVID-19 at the hospital. As reported on the HSN website, this includes one COVID-19 patient in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). In addition to this there are seven admitted patients "being tested" for COVID-19. None of the patients being tested has been admitted to the ICU at this time.
On the provincial COVID-19 register today, the Ontario government daily website reported 447 new confirmed COVID-19 cases across the province. Also today, the province reported 4 new deaths had occurred in the past 24 hours.
