The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) may stage a province-wide illegal strike to protest proposed changes to Bill 206 (an act to revise the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System).

CUPE Local 895 represents 180 cleaners, custodians and maintenance staff employed by the Rainbow District School Board.

In the event of an illegal strike by CUPE, Rainbow schools in Sudbury, Espanola and Manitoulin will remain open. Transportation will operate as usual.

Should a strike occur, the board will monitor schools on a daily basis and update contingency plans, as required.

All before and after school programs and childcare services in Rainbow Schools will continue. Community use of schools for evening and weekend events may be cancelled. Activities at the Sheridan Auditorium at Sudbury Secondary School will continue as scheduled.
