Rainbow Board Gr. 9 math scores above average

A news release from the Rainbow District School Board says the board is thanking teachers, principals and staff for the outstanding results achieved by its Grade 9 students in provincial government math testing.

A total of 1,355 Grade 9 Rainbow students participated in the province?s Education Quality Accountability Office (EQAO) math testing in January and June of 2002, with 62 per cent of Rainbow students studying in the academic stream and 38 per cent studying in the applied stream.

Of the 840 academic stream math students tested, 76 per cent of them achieved Level 3 or Level 4 results, which is the equivalent of getting a B or an A mark, respectively. This result is 12 per cent higher than the provincial result.

Of the 515 applied stream math students tested, 31 per cent of them achieved Level 3 or Level 4 results, which is the equivalent of getting a B or an A mark, respectively. This result is eight per cent higher than the provincial result.

The news release did not give the results for the other 24 per cent of academic stream students and the 69 per cent of applied stream math students.
