Members of the Rainbow Elementary Teacher Local of the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) reached a tentative collective agreement April 23 with the Rainbow District School Board following a lengthy bargaining session.

"My takeover team has struck a good deal. They have been working around the clock and the result is an agreement that provides real progress on the issues that the membership identified as important both for themselves and for their students," said ETFO president David Clegg, in a release.

"Today's tentative agreement is a win/win situation. Rainbow elementary teachers will get the working conditions they deserve and their students will get improved learning conditions," Clegg said.

"It took us a while to get this agreement but I believe the wait was worth it. The takeover team needed to ensure that we negotiated a number of improvements before we could settle," said Pat Gordon, president of the ETFO
Rainbow Elementary Teacher Local.

Details of the agreement will be available following a members' ratification vote.

The Rainbow Elementary Teacher Local represents approximately 600 public elementary school teachers. Their last contract expired August 31, 2008.

The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario represents 73,000 elementary public school teachers and education workers across the province and is the largest teacher federation in Canada.
