RCSCC Admiral Mountbatten and NLCC Sudbury participate in their first joint review

Local cadets showcase their team building skills at MacDonald Cartier High School

On June 1, the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps (RCSCC) Admiral Mountbatten underwent their 76th annual inspection simultaneously with the Navy League Cadet Corps (NLCC) Sudbury's 61st annual inspection, in the first combined Annual Ceremonial Review at MacDonald Cartier High School.

To demonstrate the team skills developed over the past year, NLCC Sudbury performed a Drill Without Arms display, while RCSS Admiral Mountbatten showcased their talent in a Drill With Arms display as well as a choreographed band display. The band display featured cadets from RCSS Admiral Mountbatten, as well as RCSCC Royal Sovereign from Sault Ste. Marie.

The reviewing officer for the event was Commodore Steve Waddell, MSM, CD, director general of Naval Strategic Readiness. Since leaving his home town of Temagami to join the Royal Canadian Navy in 1990, Waddell has had an extension career at sea, including several operational deployments to the Persian Gulf, Arabian Sea, Adriatic Sea, waters off the Horn of Africa and the Korean peninsula.

His missions included United Nation's sanctioned enforcement against Iraq and the former Yugoslavia, counter-terrorism operations in the Gulf region and piracy disruption patrols in the Indian Ocean. Over the years Waddell has had the opportunity to circumnavigate the globe with Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) Calgary as the ship’s navigator, serve as a staff officer with a deployed U.S. Carrier Strike Group, and command the frigate HMCS Fredericton on a counter-piracy mission off the coast of Somalia.

With the school year having come to a close, cadets will now begin their summer training at various camps throughout the country. Find more information on the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps Admiral Mountbatten here and the Navy League Cadet Corps Sudbury here
