Renée Sweeney's mother has passed away without her daughter's 1998 murder being solved.
Carole (Sweeney) Strachan, 62, who battled multiple sclerosis for many years, died Nov. 7, 2016, at St. Joseph's Villa with her loving family at her side.
Her daughter, 23-year-old Laurentian University student Renée Sweeney, was stabbed to death Jan. 27, 1998, while working at Adults Only Video in Sudbury. An arrest was finally made in the case Dec. 11.
Strachan's obituary said she was the beloved wife of Danny Sweeney, who died in 1990, and Bill Strachan, who died in 2013.
She was also mother to Kim Sweeney (Dan Dagenais), grandmother to two grandchildren, and stepmother of three and step-grandmother of six.
“The family express their appreciation to the staff at St. Joseph’s Villa for their outstanding care and compassion,” the obituary said. “They were truly angels to Carole.”
A memorial service takes place Saturday, Nov. 12 at 11:30 a.m. at the Lougheed Funeral Home on Regent.
The family is asking for donation to the M.S. Society, Canadian Cancer Society or St. Joseph’s Villa in lieu of flowers.
