Réseau Access Network was awarded a grant in the amount of $5,000 this past week, to continue providing clients living with Hepatitis C or Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) with food as they undergo treatment.

“This funding will allow us to help clients who are facing financial challenges have access to food while undergoing treatment,” said Heidi Eisenhauer, manager of programs and services at Réseau Access Network.

“Good nutrition is crucial as it helps them get what they need from their medications and prevents some side-effects that often occur as a result of the medications.”

Support was provided through the Community Food Centres Canada’s (CFCC) Food Access Fund in partnership with the Government of Canada’s Local Food Infrastructure fund, acting under the Food Policy for Canada. Funding offered through this program is intended to strengthen food systems and facilitate access to safe and nutritious food for at-risk populations.

“The Good Food Access Fund aims to make sure that as many people as possible will be able to get the food that they need. And while we must deal with the current circumstances, CFCC remains committed to advancing policy change that addresses the underlying causes of food insecurity and poverty in Canada,” said Nick Sault, chief executive officer of CFCC.

We can’t forget that structural inequity is at the core of so many of the challenges that Canadians face, a fact which painfully confronts us when an emergency like this occurs.”

Réseau Access Network is a non-profit community-based organization, focused on promoting wellness, harm and risk reduction, as well as education. Its programs and services offer support for individuals and the community as a whole, through holistic approaches to HIV/AIDS, Hep C and other related health issues.
