The recent heat in Greater Sudbury has the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) appealing to consumers to reduce their energy consumption for the remainder of the week, especially between the hours of 8 am and 8 pm.
This voluntary appeal is in effect until Aug. 5 at 6 pm, although the IESO maintains that further appeals may be made should the situation deteriorate further.
A news release by the IESO cites high temperatures and humidity levels combined with the limitations on Ontario?s power generating capability are creating a number of challenges in maintaining the reliability of the power system.
The IESO says that turning off all but the essential indoor and outdoor lights, closing curtains and blinds to keep out the sun and avoiding the use of major power-gobbling devices such as dishwashers and washers and dryers can all help conserve energy.
