Reynolds made her announcement Thursday in front of a small group of supporters at the Ambassador Hotel. She's the first candidate to put her name on the mayoral ballot for the 2006 municipal election.

"I've been asked by many people to come to the table and to play a larger role. I absolutely feel that I am experienced enough and I'm certainly capable of doing that," Reynolds said following her announcement.

"I'm hoping (citizens) will say a clear no to old-style regional thinking and status quo government, that they will say no to those who say things can't be done and a clear no to those who are not willing to do it. And say a clear yes, to overcoming our economic deficit and having a city that is enjoyable and affordable."

Reynolds' promised transparent and accountable government, as well as progressive policy and will use her experience as councillor to prepare for the rigours of running a city divided by the inside-outside debate.

"My platform will be about people . . . in every corner of the city. I will work to ensure that every taxpayer feels like a part of this city," she pledged.

Reynolds also said she would focus on delivering without fail the city's core services that citizens expect from their municipal government and that she would not be distracted from the issue of road repair.
