Safe driving campaign kickoff

The annual Action Sudbury Red Ribbon Kickoff will take place Friday morning at the Travelodge Inn on Paris Street. The winners of the Action Sudbury Bursary will be announced.

The winners of the Action Sudbury Bursary will be announced. Each recipient will receive a $500 bursary for their campaign efforts at the high school level. This year?s recipients are Michelle Frappier from College Notre Dame, Lisa Richer from Marymount Academy, Natasha St. Onge from Chelmsford Valley District Composite School, Kori Soule from Marymount Academy and Melanie Kurlicki from Northeastern Secondary School.

The red ribbon campaign reminds people to not drink and drive during the holiday season. Last year some 70 per cent of drinking and driving incidents in Sudbury occurred on weekends and over 90 per cent of offenders were males with 64 per cent between the ages of 20 and 39.

Action Sudbury invites residents to visit the Red Ribbon booth at New Sudbury Centre o Dec. 7 and 8. For more information, phone 524-1453.
