Safe Ride Home only available until midnight in the Valley, Rayside-Balfour

New policy means changes for some needing Safe Ride Home Sudbury services

There will be a few changes to the way Safe Ride Home Sudbury operates this holiday season.

The service that provides a ride for people — and it gets their car home safe, too — gets underway at 8 p.m. tonight. However, due to distances involved, combined with limited volunteer resources and heavy call volumes, those needing a ride to or from Rayside-Balfour and Valley East will have to call before midnight.

It's a new policy, said Safe Ride Home Sudbury president and founder Lesli Green.

“We would rather promise less and deliver 100 per cent than promise more and fall short of expectations,” she said.

Safe Ride Home Sudbury is a volunteer-driven organization dedicated to the fight against impaired driving. Clients are driven home in their own vehicle by a team of volunteers.

Volunteers are still needed, and donations are gratefully accepted.
